I’ll illustrate Scott Brill’s “OK, people in the world are mostly good…” with respect to Mongolians. When I attended a Sunday meeting in Ulaan Baatar, September 1999, a collection was taken up for disaster victims in India. Never mind that many attendees were struggling themselves.
After the NYC 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center, Mongol employees of the U.S. embassy in Ulaan Baatar each donated a day’s wages to help the grieving families.
Those who travel the Mongolian countryside and stop for directions are typically invited to tea, and often to spend the night in the nomad family’s tent home (ger). Watch out for the herd dogs.
Most Mongolians have big hearts. I married one and brought her home to Detroit, Michigan, where several other Mongols can be found.
