We continued on the Russian side towards the city of Rostov-Na-Donu. Again, the freeway took us a circuitous route through the city, and we almost got lost a number of times. After we got out of the city we eventually came upon another team of four Brits doing the rally. We followed them for a while and when we stopped at a gas station we talked a bit and decided to convoy to Volgograd, as that’s where we were all heading.
It took a while to get near the city, and by the time we reached the outer limits we were all very tired (especially Collin and I, having driven for the previous 38 hours). It was dark, and started to rain, and the other team decided to stop off at a dodgy-looking motel and call it a night. We bid them farewell and decided to find a bit better accomodations. As we couldn’t see anything and didn’t know the area our search was fruitless, and we decided to just backtrack and stay at the same place.
It looked pretty bad from the outside, but when we got in we were pretty amazed to find that the place had a swimming pool and sauna area. Looks can be deceiving! We headed out to the local market for some dinner supplies and drinks and ended up chatting with the four other guys before going to sleep for the night.
